CHINCOTEAGUE NATONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
Explore the natural beauty of this pristine park, and watch the famous wild horses. The 14,000 acre refuge offers unspoiled beachfront, dunes, marshes, and is a stopover for over 300 species of birds along the Atlantic Flyway. Explore the visitor center and get insight to the many options you have for outdoor fun and even guided tour information by the US Fish and Wildlife Service staff.
NASA WALLOPS ISLAND
The space enthusiast in your family will enjoy the NASA Visitor Center, and is adjacent to the Wallops Island Flight Facility, the oldest rocket launch range in the US. Today, several rocket launches can occur each year, with rockets delivering payloads to the Space Station or deploying satellites into the skies. MUSEUM OF CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND
Immerse yourself in a unique view our town's and connection to the waterfront lifestyle. The museum displays and interpret those objects to enhance the understanding of various experiences and events from the towns past by preserving objects of significance, along with proper documenting of their history and acquisition, for the use of further generations in understanding the history of Chincoteague Island.Included in the museum are the First Order Fresnel Lens from the Assateague Island Lighthouse, the iconic Chincoteague ponies known as Misty and Stormy, models of vessels that plied the Chincoteague waters long ago, oral histories and artifacts that tell the story of Chincoteague Island life throughout its' long and varied existence.
